He went to Saint Francis College in Brooklyn, NY and majored in Communications. The school didn't have a great Communications program at the time and Erol made due with the equipment and the great teachers that helped guide him along the way. He got his first internship and taste of a real newsroom interning in the sports department for WABC 7 Eyewitness news with iconic New York Sportscaster Scott Clarke. It was an intense experience from seeing the Yankees beat the Mets in the 2000 World series to working till the early morning sunrise covering the historic 2000 presidential elections Erol got first hand taste of what it is like working in a newsroom. He was still a junior in college.
He made friends and contacts got his second internship this time working in radio at 95.5 WPLJ for Scott and Todd in The Morning. He work up at 4am every morning and commuted to the city and took part in producing a high successful morning drive talk show. His passion and drive earned him a part time position at the station while he still was a senior in college. He took part in formatting shows for various like Jamie Lee's total request 80's. His personality and charm earned him his first real assignment as he and fellow on air talent Jason Drew were sent to Los Angeles to cover the 2001 VH1 Music Awards.
After graduating Saint Francis College in 2002, Erol went on to Television and started working for the syndicated version of the highly rated Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. Working as a part time audience page Erol climbed up the ranks and came back as the assistant coordinator for the 2nd season.
From working on shows like Judge Hatchet and Crossing over the John Edwards, To the revival of A Current Affair. Erol gained the knowledge in producing and earned the respect of his colleagues.
In 2006 Erol went backpacking in Europe and decided to visit his family's homeland in Macedonia. He brought a video camera along and placed it up on a small ledge and began to cover his adventure. Within 2 months he had enough footage and filmed his very first video. The Balkan Excursion became a huge hit amongst the Albanian community as well as among travel enthusiasts. He wrote and produced the whole video on his own.
In 2007 He got a job as an Audience Coordinator for "The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet" He wasted no time in volunteering for every crazy segment and project. From interviewing people on the street each day for various topics to dancing on stage with MC Hammer to donning a fat suit to test out the slender tone ab machine. Erol did it all and being on TV in front of millions was an adrenaline rush he just cant kick.
His goal now is to be a host of his on Show and until that happens he wont stop until he his on TV entertaining and reporting. From covering the 2008 NY International auto show to the 2009 NY Comic Con Erol show cass his videos on youtube. His raw talent and skill have brought him a long way and he still has a lot to accomplish.
Erol still lives in Queens, NY and is married to Arbena Iljazi whom he met in 2006 in Macedonia while filming The Balkan Excursion |
